MEDIA AND FINANCIAL LITERACY

MEDIA AND FINANCIAL LITERACY

ZMAI’s mission is to bring quantitative research methods and public policy-making closer to young people, but also to the professional and general public. In the past 2 years we have witnessed a significant increase in transparency and availability of data from state institutions at a central and local levels. This situation provides increased opportunities for research and analysis of civil society organizations, which are primarily focused on creating policy and advocacy. On the other hand, we are witnessing that the capacities of many local organizations are very small, and thus the quality of research and public policies are not at an enviable level.

Considering the fact that the influence of civil society organizations has increased with the establishment and the work of the Council for Cooperation and Development of the Civil Society, however, at the individual level, the number of successfully accepted or implemented public policy proposals proposed by the civil society is still small. Hence, ZMAI as an organization that promotes the creation of successful public policies based on data, supported by research and statistical solutions, recognizes the need to transfer knowledge and experience to other civil society organizations.

By increasing research capacity and publishing analyzes based on quantitative research and analysis, the CSOs contribute to increasing the level and promotion of financial literacy among citizens and the development of critical and analytical thinking about social phenomena.

By greater presence of knowledge and policies based on facts in the public, the media literacy increases, not only among active citizens but also in the general public. Our commitment is constantly to be active actors in the fight against false news and misinformation. Hence, we work proactively in capacity building, not only within the civil society organizations, but also within the teaching staff in schools, youth and the research community.
