Connecting the countries of the Open Balkans through a good tax and customs policy

One of the foundations of the Open Balkans is the free movement of goods, services and people within the borders of the member countries of this initiative. Enabling this freedom depends on countries’ tax and customs policies and administrations and their synchronization.
That is why the association for research and analysis – ZMAI within the framework of this project will cooperate with the institutions in the Republic of North Macedonia to overcome the customs and tax barriers. Hence, the main goal of this project is to overcome the customs and tax barriers for the movement of goods and services within the countries that are part of the Open Balkans.

Therefore, within the project we will work in 3 main areas:
– Meetings and working with institutions and offering expertise in overcoming problems.
– Cooperation with export-oriented companies and creation of a framework of proposals for overcoming the barriers they face, and
– Making an analysis: “Taxes and customs in the countries of the Open Balkans and how they should be in support of market integration” and creating a document that will include the analysis and recommendations for overcoming administrative barriers in the areas of taxes and customs.
